Hi Detlef,
You have come to the right place to learn.
I also was an engineer. I was a mechanical engineer for 3 years before quiting.. I am only 31, but I have had 4 solid years of experience selling on ebay..
With internet selling, especially ebooks and other informational products, it has little to do with the ebook itself..
It has more to do with how good you can market it..
The good news is that I have a few really solid methods to getting an ebook to make you very good money..
95% of those who sell ebooks do it incorrectly.. Mostly because they have a few wrong assumptions about sales..
I discuss a lot of the false assumptions here:
Particularly, the "Pricing Strategy" is one of the biggest errors people make selling informational products online..
Actually the first 10 pearls are good to read atleast..
One of them you might appreciate is "reverse engineering"..
ebay is just a game.. It is a game where you reverse engineer what makes your competitors auctions work.. Once you know the tools of how to analyze your competitors, you can reverse engineer out the important tactics and points in their ad that makes them successful.. So, this could be right up your alley, seeing you are an engineer.. Especially, computer science..
I was pretty good at computer science also in college and that is why I
have a few product selling in the big stores that I programmed.. Of course, I am sure there are millions of people who can program far far better than me, but the ticket is you have to know how to market to get your product in the stores.. The fact is anyone can make a better burger than McDonalds, but can anyone market better than they can?
Same is the case with Bill Gates.. OK programmer, good contract negotiator/marketer..
EBOOK BUSINESS TUTORIAL:
You will want to go through this tutorial:
First two are the extremely basic content for doing general selling activities on ebay.. The third shows you how to automate auctions, feedback, invoices, etc. The 4th and 5th
get into the more important and most neglected part of selling.. The 5th is some of the ebooks available on the website along with descriptions, icons, etc..
Please check out the above and get back with me on some of your ideas thus far and also any interests/hobbies you have.. We can try to cater your business more particularly to what you like to do, so that it will be a good fit in the end..
Sincerely
Tony

Hi,
I recently purchased your ebook business. I have been studying how to sell on ebay for the last few months. I have read MYNAS by Sydney Johnston and Super Affiliate
Hand Book by Rosalind Gardner. I subscribe to a few 'idea' type news letters to get selling ideas. I though that selling ebooks would be a good and inexpensive way to get my feet wet in the ebay process. After which I would like to expand to a higher priced, more profitable items. I'm still researching to find the niche market in which to expand.
I am an engineer with a background in computer science and will be retiring in about 2 years at 54 years of age. My goal is to be netting $5,000 per month by the time I retire through internet sales. I feel with your coaching and help that this goal is feasible.
I will be reading all the material you have provided and then bomb bard you with questions.
Regards,
Detlef Rohleder

O'REILLY: All right, Lis ... I sell bibles in Tarzana, CA. Lenny comes in, & he's got a ... beard. He's wearing a dress ... I have to hire him?
LIS WIEHL: You can't not hire Lenny.
O'REILLY: Yes, but ... Don't you see my business point here? ... the state of Calif .. is forcing me to hire people that may be detrimental to my business.
LIS WIEHL: appearance shouldn't matter. When you're selling bibles.
O'REILLY: Ms. Rivers, you understand ... better than Lis because she went to Harvard Law School, and that disqualifies her from common sense.
