Pearl 3: Trial and Error Testing
  1. Believe it or not, this is yet another one of the primary stumbling blocks to new sellers.
  2. They miss the whole point of the trial and error dynamic or simply leave it out altogether.
  3. What will occur is a new seller will find a product he or she believes is a winner(which 50% is not the case, but we will discuss that in another pearl), THEN he or she will make an average ad and will sit back watching their auction. After about a week, they find that zero of their 4 auctions sold or one of their twenty auctions sold and are bewildered.
  4. They look at what happened and throw their arms up in the air and often give up. Others will keep relisting it the very same way hoping it will sell the next time and either their hopes are dashed or they just ignore the fact it did not sell yet and keep the faith in the auction
  5. WHAT should have been done is a bit of trial and error. Did you see the movie called "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks? Remember the part where he was attempting to make fire for the first time.. He did it all day, cut his hand and was becoming very very frustrated. This is basically where you are at as a beginner seller. Either, you will be like most and just give up, or you will be stubborn and see it through with trial and error EVEN THOUGH it is painful.
  6. It is the person who reflects on their auction and asks themself, "What did I do wrong?" that wins EVERY TIME. As long as you don't give up and keep asking yourself, "What did I do wrong?" and logically solve it like a puzzle, you will win every time. It might take you a while to figure it out, but it is only those who do not quit who get past the first large hurdle. The first one is always the doosey, anyways and it just keeps getting easier and easier over time.
  7. REMEMBER, it gets easier and easier over time. The very FIRST hurdle is the hardest one! Once you pass the first, it just gets easier.. Today, I don't even have to do almost ANY trial and error!!! I have done so much trial and error in the past, that I understand most any of the dynamics of eBay associated with putting up an auction, so I can get it right virtually the first time. At first, though, I had to do TONS of trial and error. Like I said, it just gets easier and easier, like a game you get good at.
