At first, I had the sinking feeling that something terrible had happened the night before. Like in college when you drink too much, then wake up the next morning and your heart stops for just a second. You think you remember something stupid that you did the night before – but you’re not sure. It’s somewhere between the time your eyes open and the time you physically remove yourself from the bed that you start to realize that perhaps something awful did indeed happen. You begin to sort through memories trying to find the ones that save you from your fear. As your head clears, you settle in on reality.
